The Juan P. Cabrales Memorial Scholarship

THE WHY:
My brother, Juan P. Cabrales, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of September 24, 2020 at the age of 44. He valued a good education, and he believed that any set goal was attainable through focus and hard work. It is our family's hope that we will honor his legacy for many years with this scholarship fund. Our goal is to reach full endowment within 5 years at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) where it will benefit engineering students from an underrepresented group. I am inviting you to help us fund a memorial scholarship.
Juan earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at UIUC in 1999. As an undergrad at UIUC, he was an active member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and served as president. He also committed his time to SHPE and its members as an alumnus for many years as a mentor. At the time of his death, he had over twenty years of experience as a Software Engineer specific to pharmaceutical, data services, gaming, medical devices, aviation and aerospace, and commercial software. He was a proud Illini engineer! He was also a devoted father to his two daughters, Katalina and Eva.

HOW THIS ALL MAKES A DIFFERENCE:
- A scholarship endowment of $25,000 provides a $1,000 scholarship to one deserving college student per year AND for perpetuity. That means that for many years into the future there will still be a student every year receiving this scholarship.
- The current UIUC tuition and room and board totals out to about $30,000 per year! Think of how a scholarship can help a student minimize their amount of student loan debt.
- This named scholarship will demonstrate to his daughters, Katalina and Eva, how their father's legacy lives on at his alma mater.
- If you donate to the university, you are able to benefit from the charitable tax deduction.
MY APPRECIATION TO YOU:
Thank you for your consideration during these tough times! Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. I will happily explain the process to you - Email Me. And, please feel free to share this information with anyone who may be interested in making a donation. Special thanks to you if you have already made a donation - I appreciate you!

Sincerely,
Alejandra I. Vilchis
